Leave Holmecroft and continue towards Sedbergh church. Shortly before the church, turn L into Howgill Lane. At T (1.5 miles) bear R, keeping on Howgill Lane (NCN 68). Keep River Lune & M6 to the left until road goes under motorway (7.5 miles) and at X with A6 turn R.
At 8.5 miles mark, turn L onto NCN 68 over Loups Fell and ignoring all side riads until at 12 mile mark turn sharp R and join a road which travels between the carriageways of the M6. At T, turn L onto B6261 and at 16 mile mark, at T, join A6 into Shap (18 miles).
At 19 mile mark, take R off A6 and then shortly L. At T, take R turn and then, at X, L into Little Strickland then Great Strickland (24 miles). In Great Strickalnd, SO at X and at T (25 miles) R then shortly L at X. Join A6 again into Penrith. At left bend in A6, bear R (seems SO) into Inglewood Rd and carry on to RAB (32 miles). Take 3rd exit and at X SO and shortly R at T. At next T, left over M6 (34 miless) and immediately R running parallel and ignore all junctions until T (44.5 miles). Here, R then immediately L then enterng Carlisle. Meet Chris at Station. (48 miles).
From Carlisle Station follow signs to A7 (Scotland Road) and Longtown. At 50 mile mark cross M6, carefully avoidding A74 (50 miles) and carry on along th A7 to Longtown. (56 miles). Cross River Esk and shortly bear L onto A6071 (Gretna). Shortly after motorway junction cross River Sark and enter Scotland (60 miles)! At RAB bear L onto B671, through Gretna and follow B671 through Rigg, Eastriggs and into Annan. Find Old Rectory guest house at 12 St. John's Road (L turn off Scott Street).
